Current stock is best before end: Mar 2027Pure, Unfortified, and Gently Milled. As a traditional small-batch mill, Stoate's is exempt from regulations requiring artificial fortification. While industrial mills strip nutrients during high-speed processing and must add them back artificially, Stoate's gentle stoneground method preserves the wheat's natural goodness. This results in a distinctive creamy colour, the sign of a flour that is 100% natural and completely free from synthetic additives, including folic acid.A Note on Baking
Because this is an authentic, unstandardised product, it behaves a little differently to commercial flours. It naturally possesses a slightly lower protein (gluten) content, meaning it is less 'strong'. The dough requires a gentler touch and a little more care during preparation, and you may notice a slightly lower rise. The reward, however, is a loaf with an exceptional, traditional flavour that mass-produced flours simply cannot match. On the label
Stoate's stoneground maltstar flour gives excellent results whether using an automatic bread making machine or more traditional methods. The malted wheat flakes and malt flour give the loaves or rolls a nutty and sticky texture, while the rye flour adds extra flavour.Since 1832 Stoate and Sons has been producing quality stoneground flour. The present mill near Shaftesbury in Dorset is situated on a Domesday site where a century old overshot waterwheel is the primary source of power.
Horizontal French Burr millstones ensure the flour is ground to the finest quality.
